To promote the Louisville Ballet’s performance of “Dracula,” we needed to come up with an interesting new way to breathe life into a very old story. So, I used a misdirect, describing a growing love triangle from the perspective of a husband fending off a would-be suitor to his wife. Only when we describe options he can take to get rid of the interloper — one of them very dark and violent —do we finally reveal that the potential paramour is Count Dracula.
