Shortly after the Ken Burns “Baseball” miniseries ran on PBS, the Louisville Slugger Museum created an exhibit dedicated to honoring the teams and players of the Negro Leagues called “Discover Greatness.” As the documentary revealed, the Negro Leagues played a crucial role in the history of baseball. Our goal was to generate excitement for the exhibit with ads that were highly impactful yet respectful. It was an immensely fun project, a chance for us to call out the racism these amazing athletes faced and an opportunity to give them the respect they so richly deserved. Plus, at the opening of the exhibit, I got to meet Buck O’Neil of the Kansas City Monarchs, one of the most colorful personalities of the entire Ken Burns “Baseball” documentary.
